ADAM & Z
Hey Everyone,
Today I am happy to bring you a new episode – ADAM & Z. The ADAM was technically my very first gaming console. My parents bought it from this amazing toy store that used to exist in Rochester called “Kiddie City”
My parents were totally sold on the ADAM – which boasted both a video game system and a home computer:
Unfortunately the computer aspect never really worked out. I briefly remember on one lone evening my attempts at trying to type out a letter to the tooth fairy on the archaic and incomprehensible word processing program – getting extremely frustrated, and failing miserably. I think that was the last attempt myself or my family made at trying to make that printer be anything else other than a huge power strip.
The gaming aspect however is really what I enjoyed. In fact – for a system that was purchased for my entire family – it was me that used it the most – I played those games so much – to this day I believe that my Tapper skills are still pretty great, probably because I’ve been playing the game since I was five years old. There’s something to be said for practice. I also think that this console taught me patience, as many of the games were frustrating and hard and took a lot of trial and error and were of course (as were many early games) very unforgiving.
One of the reasons I wanted to do this episode is that whenever I’ve talked about the ADAM with a group of gamers very few, if any, have even a clue about the consoles existence. I suppose for me – it’s important to remember what made you the gamer you are today. I wonder – do you have any consoles or games that were very important to you that no one has ever heard of?

Nice job ^_^ Well, I never had any realllllly obscure consoles but I do tend to like a few obscure games. I think I said my peace for the most part, but yeah, there’s a game… See, I played Donkey Kong, but the game I got really good at was a ripoff of Donkey Kong (also for the Atari 2600) called “Kangaroo”. I looped the game (all 3 screens) 11 times once! It was about a little boxing kangaroo who’s joey was kidnapped by monkeys, so you had to make your way to the top of the screen while dodging monkeys and coconuts (or are those pixel blocks monkey poo?). Funny thing about it was that the “jump” was actually done by moving the joystick on a horizonal left or right motion… and when trying to jump over monkeys… yeeeaaah….

Wow, I had a kiddie city near me in central jersey but I’m pretty sure it closed when i was three or four. I remember it wasn’t as close as the toy r us was to my house. so my parents would only take me there when we took the dog to the vet, which is bizarre now that i think about it.
Still even though I haven’t thought about KC in about 22 years I’m totally having a nostalgia trip at the moment.
oh also props on bringing viewer mail back.

I think I just about went into nostalgia heaven when I saw that wall of GIJoes in the first commercial, Z. Mind if I borrow that time machine of yours to grab a few?
Nice video, btw…
